Sunil Narine becomes first overseas player to reach 200 IPL wickets

Sunil Narine created history in the Indian Premier League. He became the first overseas player to take more than 200 wickets in the league. The milestone came during Match 45 of IPL 2026.

Narine achieved this feat while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, May 03.

Before the match, Narine had 199 wickets. He needed just one more to reach the milestone. He finished his spell with 2 wickets for 31 runs in four overs. This helped him go past the 200-wicket mark. He now has 201 wickets in his IPL career.

Narine joins elite list of IPL bowlers

Narine’s first wicket in the match was Salil Arora. He bowled a brilliant delivery to dismiss him. On the last ball of the same over, he dismissed Ishan Kishan. It was a strong performance from the experienced spinner.

He is now the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL history. Yuzvendra Chahal leads the list with 228 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is second with 215 wickets.

Narine has also set another record. He is the only bowler in IPL history to take 200 wickets for a single team. He has played only for KKR since his debut in 2012.

Other bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga also have many wickets for one team. Both played for Mumbai Indians. However, they are still behind Narine in this record.

Narine has played 197 matches in the IPL. He has maintained an excellent economy rate of 6.79. He also has seven four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

He has been a key player for KKR. He was part of their title wins in 2012, 2014, and 2024. His performance over the years has made him a legend of the league.
