Abhishek Sharma, all-rounder of Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. He also received one demerit point during his team’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 2.
The 25-year-old admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3. He accepted the sanction given by match referee Shakti Singh.
SRH dominate KKR with strong all-round performance
For Level 1 breaches, the match referee’s decision is final and binding. Therefore, no formal hearing was needed in this case.
Talking about the match, Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a strong performance. They set a big target of 227 runs. In reply, KKR managed only 161 runs. SRH won the match by 65 runs. It was also the first successful defence of a target in IPL 2026.
Captain Ishan Kishan praised his team after the win. He gave credit to the batters, especially Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, for their strong start in the powerplay.
“Not happy with the way I played but really happy the team was committed. Everyone was putting in the energy they put that I asked for. I don’t think the pitch was that good to be honest. Travis Head and Abhishek played a beautiful knock out there. The powerplay made the game easy for us because every batter got time to take singles and get a feel of the pitch. Great effort from them and Klaassy at the end. Team effort,” Kishan said at the post-match presentation.
“I think we are getting to know about the areas with each game. Fielding is an area. We can’t give 20 runs in extras. We’ll work on it as a team,” he concluded.
SRH will next face Lucknow Super Giants on April 5. The match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, which will be their first home game this season.
