India batter Rinku Singh is going through a very difficult time during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. His father, Khanchand Singh, passed away on Friday after fighting stage four liver cancer for a long time. He was 28-year-old Rinku’s biggest support.
Khanchand Singh was admitted to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. His health became worse earlier this week. Doctors put him on ventilator support. He was also receiving continuous renal therapy. Despite full medical care, he breathed his last on February 27.
The sad news came just one day after Rinku returned to Chennai. He had rejoined the Indian team for their important Super 8 match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Earlier, when his father’s condition became serious, Rinku had travelled home to visit him in the hospital.
Rinku Singh Leaves Team Camp After Tragic News
Rinku was not part of the playing XI against Zimbabwe. The team selected Sanju Samson in the changed combination. However, Rinku stayed with the squad. He even came on the field as a substitute fielder during the match.
India defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs in Chennai. The win kept India’s semifinal hopes alive in the tournament. Soon after the match, Rinku was informed about his father’s death. He immediately left the team camp and travelled to Aligarh to be with his family.
Rinku’s father worked as an LPG cylinder deliveryman in Aligarh. He faced many financial problems but always supported his son’s cricket dream. Rinku has often spoken about his father’s sacrifices and belief in his talent.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh shared his condolences on social media. He said it was an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family. He offered prayers and strength to them.
