New Zealand opener Devon Conway has officially confirmed that he will not continue with Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2026 season. His announcement marks the end of his three-year journey with the five-time IPL champions. Conway posted a heartfelt message for CSK fans on social media, thanking them for their support during his time at the franchise.
CSK Begin Major Squad Rebuild for IPL 2026
CSK finished at the bottom of the table in IPL 2025. The poor performance has forced the management to rethink their squad for the next season. Many big moves are already underway. One of the biggest was the historic trade in which Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran moved to Rajasthan Royals, while Sanju Samson joined CSK.
The release of Conway is another major step in this rebuilding process. Although Conway was one of CSK’s most consistent batters in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, his form dipped in IPL 2025. Because of this, he was placed on the release list.
Conway confirmed the news with a short message on X. He wrote, “Thank you to all loyal fans of CSK for amazing 3 years support,” expressing his appreciation for the fanbase.
Conway joined CSK in 2022 and made an immediate impact. He scored 252 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 145.66 in his debut season. His best performance came in IPL 2023, where he scored 672 runs at an average of more than 51. He was the third-highest run-scorer that year. His quick 47 off 25 balls in the final against Gujarat Titans played a key role in CSK’s title win.

After missing the 2024 season, Devon Conway returned to CSK in the mega auction, where he was bought for INR 6.25 crore. But his 2025 season did not go well. He scored only 156 runs in six innings with an average of 26. The team also struggled as a whole. CSK recorded the lowest powerplay strike rate of 137.50 and managed only 693 runs inside the first six overs throughout the season.
With Conway and Rachin Ravindra leaving, CSK now have over INR 10 crore available for the IPL 2026 auction. The team is looking at young players for the future. Dewald Brevis may play a bigger role next season. Young Indian talents like Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel are also being prepared for key positions. CSK are expected to release Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, and Jamie Overton as part of their new plan.
