Delhi Capitals’ all-rounder Vipraj Nigam has filed a police complaint against a woman for allegedly harassing and threatening him for the past two months. The 25-year-old cricketer, who had a strong debut IPL season in 2025, approached the Kotwali Nagar police station in Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh. He said he had been receiving multiple threat calls and messages from international numbers.
“The person began using several foreign numbers to harass me” – Vipraj Nigam in police report
According to reports, the trouble began in September 2025. Nigam started receiving abusive and threatening messages from one mobile number. When he blocked that number, the same person allegedly used several international numbers to continue harassing him. The accused, identified as Richa Purohit, reportedly threatened to implicate Nigam in false criminal cases if he did not meet her demands.
Nigam, who lives in Awas Vikas Colony in Barabanki, said things worsened when the woman began spreading fake and objectionable content online. He claimed that she shared false videos and posts on social media to damage his image. The harassment, he said, also extended to his family members and friends, causing him severe mental stress.
Based on Vipraj Nigam’s complaint, police registered an FIR under sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (insult and provocation to breach peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Superintendent of Police (SP) Arpit Vijayvargiya confirmed the registration of the case. He said that an investigation is underway to trace the source of the international calls and verify the claims made by the cricketer.
“Initially, the calls were made from a mobile number, but after I blocked it, the same person began using several foreign numbers to harass me,” the cricketer was quoted as saying in the report.
Meanwhile, Vipraj Nigam is one of India’s most promising young all-rounders. He was picked by the Delhi Capitals for INR 50 lakh before the IPL 2025 season. In his debut year, he impressed fans with his all-round skills, scoring 142 runs and taking 11 wickets in 14 matches.
