The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan ended with a big controversy. India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in Dubai on Sunday. But the trophy and medals are still not with the Indian team.
Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi shocked everyone with his actions after the match. He stepped onto the presentation stage, but Team India refused to take the trophy from his hands. The Indian players had made it clear they would only accept it from a neutral official. After this, Naqvi left the stage, walked out of the stadium, and carried the trophy and medals back to his hotel room.
It has been two days since the final. The Indian team has already returned home, but there is no clarity on when they will receive the trophy. A report in Cricbuzz has claimed that Naqvi has put a condition. According to the report, Naqvi wants a formal function to be arranged. He wants to personally hand over the trophy and medals to Suryakumar Yadav and his team. With the tense political situation between India and Pakistan, such an event looks highly unlikely.
BCCI To Protest Against ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi for Asia Cup 2025 Trophy and Player Medals
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strongly reacted to this incident. Secretary Devajit Saikia criticised Naqvi’s actions.
“We have decided not to take the trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the main leaders of Pakistan. So we will not accept it from him,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told ANI.
He added that the BCCI will not let the matter pass quietly. “That does not mean that the gentleman will take away the trophy with him, along with the medals. It is very unfortunate, very unsporting.
“We hope that the trophy and the medals will be returned to India as soon as possible. This is definitely what we are going to do (protest). There is an ICC conference in the month of November or in the first week of November in Dubai. We are going to launch a very serious and very strong protest against the act of the ACC chairperson,” he asserted.
