Indian Boxing Squad Announced for Paris Olympics 2024

The Indian boxing squad is set to etch their mark at the Paris Olympics 2024. Comprising a squad of six highly skilled boxing players, four women and two men, the squad is determined to showcase their prowess on the global stage.

The road to Paris was challenging, with athletes navigating a series of competitive tournaments and qualifiers to earn their spots. The journey for the Indian boxing team began at the Asian Games 2022, where Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Preeti Pawar (54 kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) each clinched bronze medals, thus securing their Olympic berths.

Meanwhile, Jaismine Lamboria was included following Parveen Hooda’s suspension by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which allowed Lamboria to step in and secure her spot by defeating Marine Camara of Mali in the quarter-finals of the 2024 World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers in Bangkok.

India’s history in Olympic boxing is notable, yet modest, with only three medals to date: Vijender Singh’s bronze in Beijing 2008, MC Mary Kom’s bronze in London 2012, and Lovlina Borgohain’s bronze in Tokyo 2020. This upcoming team is keen on expanding the country’s legacy.
