Indian Batting Coach Vikram Rathour Defends Virat Kohli Amidst String of Low Scores in T-20 World Cup

India’s batting coach, Vikram Rathour, has addressed the ongoing concerns regarding Virat Kohli’s recent performance in the T-20 World Cup 2024. Kohli, a former captain and key player for the Indian team, has managed to score only 5 runs in three matches so far. Despite Kohli’s struggles, India has won all their group stage games except the last match against Canada, which was abandoned due to rain.

Kohli, who has been opening the innings alongside Rohit Sharma, has not been able to make a significant impact at the top of the order. Rathour, however, remains optimistic about Kohli’s form and future contributions. In a post-match conference following the abandoned game against Canada, Rathour emphasized that a few early failures do not undermine Kohli’s abilities.

“I love it when every time I come there is a question about Virat Kohli, whether he is doing well or not. No concern at all, no concern at all. He (Kohli) has been batting superbly from the tournament that he came from (IPL). Couple of dismissals here, doesn’t change anything, he is batting really well”, Rathour stated.

Rathour expressed confidence that Kohli’s early failures would fuel his determination to perform better in the upcoming matches. “Actually, it’s good that he is a little hungrier, he is really keen to do well and really switched on. It’s a good space to be as a batsman, I think. Looking forward to some good games and we’ve watched some good innings from him.”

Rathour also highlighted the importance of flexibility and adaptability for the team as they progress in the tournament. “We need to be a flexible team, ready to adapt to different conditions. We will assess the conditions on match days and react accordingly. Our squad has enough depth and resources to handle any situation,” he added.

India’s first match of the super eights will be against Afghanistan on June 20 in Barbados, West Indies. The team, led by captain Rohit Sharma, will look to continue their strong performance and secure a place in the knockout stages, with hopes that Kohli will soon find his form and contribute significantly to their success.
